Your District At Work

Jenkintown Business Improvement District (BID) was formed in January 2007 by Borough ordinance that granted power to the Jenkintown Community Alliance to enhance our commercial corridors and restore Jenkintown’s “golden mile” to a vibrant, walkable shopping town. Jenkintown’s BID is based on the Main Street approach which advocates a comprehensive strategy toward economic revitalization through a self-help doctrine that builds on community assets through which a self-taxing mechanism generates multi-year revenue. It is governed by a Board of Directors with active volunteer committees representing the community and is part of the Pennsylvania Downtown Association.

Attracting Businesses and Increasing Our Customer Base

Working from the Business Improvement District Plan and in coordination with Jenkintown’s Master Plan and continuing dialogue with Jenkintown stake holders we have pooled assessment dollars form Jenkintown property owners and funds from the Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development, the Borough of Jenkintown, and other private donations we are currently

• Working with Property Owners, Businesses and Our Borough
  Targeting our properties with great opportunity, Jenkintown ambassadors are working with property owners to help identify best-fit businesses that will enhance our community.

  Garnering public funds for façade enhancements and building improvements. Advocating with the Borough’s Revitalization Committee to increase public parking, update our zoning code, and contribute to the design of publicly funded Old York Road Street enhancements.

  Allocating funds for welcoming signs along Old York Road and directional signage so the public is aware of our parking and shopping opportunities.

• Promoting Jenkintown as a regional shopping & tourist destination
  We’ve joined regional tourism and marketing boards to promote our town as a destination shopping village

  We are developing targeted ad campaigns and administer Jenkintown Gift Certificate programs, and seasonal shopping promotions.

  We produce events such as Jenkintown Festival of the Arts, Jenkintown Sunset Run , and shopping events to attract new shoppers.
